Standard Compass feature

Pool customisations

A Compass pool isn't just a shell in the ground — it's the centrepiece of your outdoor living. Add a spa, a beach zone, a Sunpod water feature, an infinity edge or full LED lighting. Every option is designed and built into the shell at the factory, not bolted on afterwards.

Pool customisations

Customise your Compass fibreglass pool — start with a shape, make it yours

Fibreglass gets a reputation for being one-size-fits-all — like you're picking off a catalogue with no room to move. That's not how Compass works. We start with 10 pool shapes across nearly 40 sizes, then give you a wide range of options to customise your pool at the factory level, so it arrives on site exactly as designed.

Add a spa or a wader. Create a shallow beach zone for the kids. Build in a tiled Sunpod water feature. Specify a vanishing edge for the view. Or simply choose your Bi-Luminite or Vivid colour and let that do the talking. Every option can be combined, and every option is available with Vantage self-cleaning.

  • 10 pool shapes. From compact Plunge to full-length Fastlane. Every backyard has a matching starting point.
  • Nearly 40 sizes. Small courtyard to family entertainer to lap-training. Standard sizes plus custom lengths.
  • 14 colours across two ranges. 9 Bi-Luminite for depth and 3D warmth; 5 Vivid for high-clarity vibrance.
  • Almost endless combinations. Mix and match spa, beach, Sunpod, edge, lighting and colour. Your dealer helps you land on the right one.

Customisation options

Mix and match from these five main options. On your free site visit we walk through each of them and help you decide which ones genuinely add to your enjoyment vs which are just extra cost.

Pool + spa combo (or add a wader)

Pool + spa combo (or add a wader)

Adding a spa or a shallow-zone wader is the most-requested Compass upgrade. A spa extends pool use year-round with independent heating — winter evenings genuinely usable. A wader is a family-friendly shallow zone (300–400mm) for young kids and lounging adults. Both are colour-matched to your Bi-Luminite finish, and both can be either separate from or seamlessly connected to the main pool as one flowing shell.

Beach zones & Grand Entry benches

Beach zones & Grand Entry benches

A shallow, sun-warmed area perfect for young children and lounging adults. Compass builds them directly into the pool shell at the factory — not bolted on later with a separate mould. A rebate in the pool wall connects to a custom fibreglass beach or bench built to your dimensions. Beach zones come in variable lengths; the Grand Entry Bench is 4.2m long by 1.4–4.0m wide.

Sunpod water features

Sunpod water features

Sunpods are tiled raised platforms built along the edge of your pool, with in-ground water bubblers turning the pool surround into a moving water feature. One of the most popular Compass add-ons. Because they're tiled, Sunpods can be personalised into any tile colour and pattern — a genuinely unique pool space. Available any size, along any edge, combinable with spa or beach zone.

Vanishing & infinity edges

Vanishing & infinity edges

The illusion of water flowing seamlessly into the landscape. Thanks to Maxi Rib technology, it's now available in fibreglass at a fraction of the concrete alternative. The pool shell is manufactured with a drop in the coping along one edge; a small holding tank below creates the overflow effect. Ideal for sites with an outlook — hillside, ridge, garden or ocean view.

Pool lighting

Pool lighting

Transform your pool after dark. Multi-colour LED lights can be controlled from an app on your phone (mode changes, colour transitions, on-off schedules) or run as fixed white LED for a clean, consistent look. No alteration to the pool shell required, making it one of the most affordable customisation options. Interior lights, deck lighting, or both together.

How customisation actually works

Unlike builders who add customisations on site, Compass builds them into the shell at the factory. Cleaner result, no site retrofits, no compromised warranties.

1

Start with a shape

Choose from 10 pool shapes and nearly 40 sizes. On your site visit we help you find the right starting point for your Mackay block.

2

Design your options

Together we select customisations: spa, beach zone, Sunpod, vanishing edge, lighting, Vantage. Each is specified before manufacturing begins — nothing is retrofitted.

3

Built at the factory

Compass builds your pool shell with all specified modifications at their Australian manufacturing facility. Precise, high-quality, factory-controlled — not a site retrofit.

4

Installed on your site

We install the pool and integrate it with your paving, decking, landscaping and any additional features. Vantage, lighting and Bi-Luminite all commissioned on handover day.

Every customised pool includes

Whatever options you pick, every Compass pool starts with the same engineering underneath.

Vantage self-cleaning

Every custom configuration is available with the Vantage in-floor self-cleaning system — including spa and beach zone.

Ceramic Core™ structure

Every pool shell, regardless of configuration, is built with the same proprietary ceramic composite core for maximum strength.

9 Bi-Luminite + 5 Vivid colours

14 colour options across two ranges. Your spa, wader and beach zone are all colour-matched to your pool in your chosen finish.

10 shapes, ~40 sizes

From compact plunge pools to large family pools and lap pools, your customisation options apply to every shape in the Compass range.

Any site, any elevation

Maxi Rib technology means customised pools — including infinity edges — can be installed on virtually any site, in-ground or above.

Covered by warranty

Your custom pool is backed by the same industry-leading structural warranty as any standard Compass pool.

Straight answers · Pool customisations FAQs

Pool customisations — the pool questions we get asked most.

What are the most popular customisations across Mackay installs?

Across our own installs: Vantage self-cleaning (nearly every job), spa or wader integration (about half), LED lighting (most installs), porcelain or travertine coping (standard on premium jobs), and channel drains (specified on any splash-heavy install like the Cowen X-Trainer spa). For hillside blocks like Dolphin Heads or Eimeo, Maxi Rib above-ground construction is the customisation that makes the project possible at all.

Can I combine multiple customisations in one build?

Yes — most of our projects combine three or more custom features. The Cowen X-Trainer spa in Sapphire, for example, combines spa jets, down jets for circulation, a channel drain, and multi-colour LEDs. The Airlie X-Trainer combo integrates the pool, matching spa, Vantage self-cleaning and a sunken firepit alongside. All decided together during the design phase, then built into the shell at the factory.

Are customisations more expensive?

Depends what you're adding. Some things (like Vantage self-cleaning) are optional but transformative. Others (Ceramic Core, HydroPro™) are standard and don't add cost. Fixtures like LED lighting and spa jets have defined line-item prices. Structural changes like Maxi Rib installation depend on the site specifics. We cost every option honestly and itemised on your quote — no hidden mark-ups, no bundling tricks.

Why does Compass build customisations at the factory rather than on site?

Two reasons: quality and warranty. A factory-controlled environment produces a cleaner result than an on-site retrofit — no field joins, no site-cured resin work, no risk of the customisation aging differently to the main shell. Second, it means your customisation is covered under the same shell warranty as the pool itself. On-site retrofits often void the manufacturer warranty on the affected area. Compass avoids that entirely.

How long does the design phase take?

For a straightforward customisation combination (Vantage + spa + LEDs + Bi-Luminite colour), the design phase is one or two site visits — typically inside a fortnight. For more complex builds involving Maxi Rib construction, infinity edges, or structural engineering sign-off, we might extend that to four to six weeks. The factory manufacture then takes 8–12 weeks depending on shape and options.

Do custom pools take longer to install than standard ones?

The factory build is longer (customisations are built in during manufacture, not added later). But the on-site install time is broadly the same as a standard pool, because everything arrives ready to drop in. Total lead time from quote-sign to first swim: typically 12–16 weeks for a customised build. We give you a specific date on the day of quote sign-off.
