Andergrove sits about five kilometres north-east of central Mackay — a genuinely family suburb, walking distance from the beach at Slade Point and a five-minute drive from Mount Pleasant shopping. Most blocks are established, most homes are lowset brick or rendered builds from the '80s onwards, and pool ownership is the norm rather than the exception. If you live in Andergrove and don't have a pool, chances are your kids' friends do.
The Mackay swimming season runs eight to nine months of the year, and Andergrove homes are built for it — most backyards face north or east, most blocks are 600–800m², and the tropical humidity from November through March genuinely pushes families outside in the evenings. On the split-level and retaining-wall blocks around Norris Road and the streets running up from Bucasia Road, the Compass Plunge Range and Oasis shape are the standouts: engineered for exactly this kind of tight-access, courtyard-scale site. Post-war lowset brick homes on established gardens through the older parts of Andergrove, and modern rendered-brick family builds through the newer sections closer to Rural View. Blocks are typically 600–800 square metres — big enough for a proper family pool but tight enough that shape and access matter. Split-level blocks are common, particularly on streets sloping down toward the Andergrove Wetlands, which is where builds get technical.
